Thank you for your comments and great insight. You have been a great advocate for this process and hopefully the people who read this blog, take your advice, and follow through. No doubt this community will continue to engage in this incredible dialogue, but more encouragement can’t hurt! It’s be one of the most rewarding in my professional experience; win or lose it has enhanced my professional goals, and will make me better as someone who has worked to support Microsoft IT Professionals and steps into a new era of Redmond Meda with MSDN, TN online under the groups umbrella. It may not be obvious to this community, but this is a community of people and vendors that have allowed me to fulfill my career ambitions. This is my community as well – as stated before – this is a market that we have made a deep commitment to improving for many, many years (dating back to the days of MCP Magazine where my first experiences w the community came from, but not work done w Microsoft). You bet I have a passion for SQL Server and owe so much to our partners and audiences that has consumed the information resources the team puts into the market both editorially, and in partnership with the vendors we serve and support. As mentioned to Chuck Bryce, this is an opportunity for me to give back, and work with people who share my passion. Passion is a critical, and with a combination of the right skills, very few organizations succeed. We “Redmondnites” are the most passionate people and work tirelessly on behalf of Microsoft IT professionals. PASS offers an opportunity to work with like-minded individuals; its not about power and influence (people who make that an objective – power hungry struggle in their careers, and rarely garner respect from their peers). As I’ve told my team; “I work for you” and to the PASS community, the same would be also be said. Again, I’m not an outsider, but a business leader in this market. The MSDN opportunity is a great example of how we work, and work to be the best. I explained to him why i didn't (and you see my explanation here). Jorge Segarra made another good point about Thomas LaRock having done that well through the UStream presentations he did. The bottom line is to know who you're voting for. Your vote makes a difference. If you don't know the candidates, ask them the questions you want answered. Do the research on them. Determine for yourself whether or not that person is the right person for the board or not, as Joe Webb put so eloquently: [...]
