Identifying Performance Bottlenecks
When a SQL Server application is under performing, how can you isolate where the actual problem is? Would more memory help? What about adding additional processors? Or maybe some indexes are missing? In this session, we will discover how data-driven subscriptions in SQL Server Reporting Services can be used to effectively deliver reports to a varying list of subscribers.
Tips & Tricks for Writing Better Queries
Transact-SQL is not a very difficult language to learn. As long as the syntax is correct, it can be quite forgiving. In this session, we’ll discuss some Transact-SQL tips and tricks that can be employed to help you write better queries, allowing your server to perform better.

You can even store your results in a database table if you’d like. This session is mostly demos with only a few PowerPoint slides to get us started.

Comments from Session Evaluations
Wow! Joe is a terrific speaker – he engages his audience and makes what could be a very dry topic….quite riveting! Joe is one speaker that I will always be looking for at conferences from now on.
Joe is a great trainer. Not only is he knowledgeable about his subject, he also understands how to communicate that to others.
Excellent instructor, building on background very well. The explanation of the type of locks is especially useful. I have been trying to wrap my heads around this topic for a while now; you finally had made the material – make sense! The discussion on Read committed Snapshot will help me tremendously. I will definitely use this in the field to alleviate some of the locking and blocking when reports are run against production databases. Again, you have made this topic very easy to understand!
Action packed – this is a must for any DBA. Big take aways for the DBA always being hassled because of blocking problems.
The tip on how to merge sql trace and performance counters would be most useful for me from your session. It is amazing to think that it is so sample and yet so well hidden that I have been using these tools for so long but never realize that it is there! Thank you very much for show that in the session. That alone is worth the ticket!
Awesome. This session alone paid for my trip. Excellent++
Specially like the way he did show us how to identify an issue from A to Z which some book do not do.
Awesome awesome presentation. I was amazed how much difference there was between queries getting the same information, but implemented slightly differently. This presentation will definitely get me more conscious of how I write my queries in the future. Thanks.
